I searched the state of Mississippi for 10 years trying to find the perfect tract of land that would fit my families needs. Each tract I looked at there was something that didn't fit. I contacted Tom Smith. I explained to him what we were looking for and he smiled and said I'll find it. He changed the subject and asked me about my family, we talked about his family, we talked about hunting, business and several other things over the next hour. I was thinking he must not be very busy to take this much time with me. (Little did I know he sold more land in Ms. than anybody else) before we left I looked at Tom and said 'don't forget what I'm looking for' he laughed and said 'I will find it'. About a month later my wife and I met Tom to look at a tract of land. We loved what he had found. We looked at it several times before making an offer. When my wife and I decided that we wanted to put some funds into non-paper assets, we decided on timber land. We contacted Tom Smith and met with him one evening. We knew nothing about this kind of investment and Tom patiently explained the ins and outs and how this sort of thing worked. We discussed our desires and Tom translated those into a specific type of property that we should be looking for, considering our budget. Because of our ages, we needed to find something that would be harvestable in a relatively short time. One thing you find out pretty quickly is that someone is willing to sell you a piece of timberland every hour of every day. If an agent or even an acquaintance finds out that you want timber, they will have something for you to go look at the next day. People kept asking me why I had not bought anything yet. They seemed to think it was like buying a car. You just go pick out what you want. Tom weeded out properties that did not fit our goals. We kissed a lot of frogs as we looked at different properties. They looked better on paper than they did in person. Eventually we found exactly the right piece at exactly the right price. There were a number of unforeseen difficulties in closing the deal, but Tom was right there every step of the way during the negotiating process and, with his help, we closed on the perfect investment. Tom Smith is the Principal Broker and founder of Tom Smith Land and Homes, bringing over two decades of real estate expertise and a deep-rooted knowledge of the Mississippi market. A native of Meridian, Mississippi, Tom attended Mississippi State University and launched his real estate career in Madison in 2002.

With a strong background in executive leadership, Tom brings a strategic business mindset to real estate, having previously served in top management roles with major companies such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot, as well as holding CEO positions for retail organizations across the U.S.

Tom is one of the few Realtors in the Southeastern U.S. to hold the prestigious Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) designation from the Realtor Land Institute, which he earned in 2006. He is also a recipient of the APEX Award, recognizing him among the top-performing land brokers in America. His specialties include recreational tracts, timberland investment, commercial properties, and 1031 Tax-Deferred Exchanges.

An avid outdoorsman, Tom enjoys hunting, fishing, boating, and golf in his free time. He and his wife of 29 years, Ellen, make their home in Lake Caroline (Madison), Mississippi, and are proud parents of two daughters—one residing in Lakeland, Tennessee, and the other in Charleston, South Carolina.

Ellen Brand Smith is originally from Chicago, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in 1988 with a BS in Economics. She then moved out to California, where she earned her MBA from Pepperdine University and began her business career with a Fortune 500 company in Los Angeles. Ellen later formed her own company, Brand Merchandising, which became a leading service company in the Western United States.

Ellen has lived all over the country, but has lived in Madison, MS with her husband, Tom, and their two daughters (one is married and one is in college) for 20 years. Mississippi is also where she discovered her passion for the real estate business and the local outdoor lifestyle. Together, Ellen and Tom opened Tom Smith Land & Homes to be the area’s premier real estate brokerage. She manages the residential side of the business with a focus on homes and commercial properties throughout the region. Ellen has been selling real estate for 20 years to satisfied clients, periodically flipping houses, and has sold properties all over the State.

Haley Hickman Belden

Haley Belden is a native of Brandon, MS. She graduated from Northwest Rankin High School and earned a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Mississippi. She taught sixth grade at Northwest Rankin Middle School in Rankin County for 12 years. Haley has been a stay-at-home mom for nine years and is excited about a career change with real estate.

Prior to obtaining her real estate license, Haley was very involved with the Rankin County School District as a parent volunteer and fundraiser. She served on the Northshore Elementary PTO board for four years as secretary and president. She was honored as “Parent of the Year” two years in a row. Haley also served on the Rankin County Bond Issue Committee for a year to help fund improvements for Rankin County Schools and build a new Northwest Rankin High School. She currently serves on the Northwest Rankin High School Softball Board and is very active with the Junior League of Jackson.

Haley and her husband, David, reside in the reservoir area of Brandon, MS. They share four children together. Alese lives in Birmingham, AL. Avery is a student at Mississippi State University. Brooks and Grace are students at Northwest Rankin High School. They all enjoy travel, sporting events, and spending time together.

Anthony Steen, ALC

Anthony was born in Bolivar County, but his family moved shortly after to Clarksdale, MS. He spent his primary educational and athletic years attending and playing sports at Lee Academy. As a child, he played baseball, football, basketball, soccer and even threw shot put and disc for track. After graduating in 2009, Anthony continued his education and athletic career for the next five years at the University of Alabama on a football scholarship. He majored in Health Environmental Science and completed his bachelor’s degree and was a part of two SEC Championship and three National Championship teams with the Crimson Tide. After college, Anthony played for the Arizona Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League for 4 years until he decided to retire and come back to the Mississippi Delta where he grew up.

Growing up, Anthony was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time helping his grandfather on the farm growing cotton and soybeans. His father and grandfather helped instill the importance of and a love for taking care of the land and wildlife around him. He enjoys all types of hunting from deer, duck, and turkey, to hogs, frogs, and pheasant. After retiring from the NFL, Anthony knew he wanted to come back home to the land he loved so much as a child.

Anthony currently resides in Tallahatchie County where he farmed soybeans with his family for a few years. After much deliberation and praying, Anthony knew it was time to start a new career path. He was certain he wanted to find a way to share his passion for the outdoors with others while staying true to his country roots. As a college athlete, Anthony learned hard work, dedication, discipline, trust, and how to work with others. Colby Watson

Colby’s love for the outdoors is what drew him to Tom Smith Land and Homes. Born and raised in Pearl, MS, he has had a love for the outdoors since his dad took him hunting for the first time. He attended Pearl High School and graduated in 2006. After high school, he went to Meridian Community College on a soccer scholarship. He has deep roots in the outdoors; he is a dedicated duck and deer hunter. His love for the outdoors is where he gets his passion for the land and being in nature. In 2010, he started a duck guiding business in the MS delta and ran it successfully until getting married in 2014. At that time, he formed a lawn and landscape business in Central MS as the owner and operator.

Colby, his wife Katie, and their two children Bodie and Ellie Kate reside in Pearl. Their free time is spent on the water or in the woods. During the summer, they enjoy spending time at their lake house on Eagle Lake. They love being around friends and family and making memories.

Bill was born and raised on a farm in Scott County, Mississippi. His family farm had cotton, soy beans, cattle and hogs. It was there on his family‘s farm that he gained knowledge and respect for the land that God provided. During his high school years, Bill’s understanding and love of the farm grew as he began showing cattle and hogs at local livestock shows. After high school, he graduated from Mississippi State University and spent many years as a CPA. Chad Wilson grew up in Jackson, MS and spent most of his time as a child and young adult helping his father raise cattle on his 3,000 acre farm in Madison County. Chad attended Callaway High School before heading to Hinds Community College where he studied electronics. He began a law enforcement career in Lafayette, LA and then moved back home to continue that career in Brandon, MS. Danny Willoughby

Daniel Willoughby was born at a Naval hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. His father spent 26 years in the United States Navy. During this time, Daniel traveled all over the world and country before his family decided to settle down in Jackson, Mississippi. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and was awarded the Marshall of Liberal Arts. He worked for 12 years in the Medical Sales industry before beginning his career in Right of Way where he started his own business, Reservoir Consultants. David moved to Warren County, Mississippi in 1994 and spent his high school years at St Aloysius High School in Vicksburg. After graduation, he went to Hinds Community College and then on to Belhaven University playing baseball and football. David worked in the restaurant business during college and continued for 24 years working in all aspects of the industry from management, ownership, to commercial food sales. He enjoyed meeting people and making friends from all over the world; no matter where David is he seems to run in to someone he calls a friend! With a long career in the service industry, David learned that nothing is more important than God and family, and to treat every person as they are part of it. Charlie Heinsz

Charles C. Heinsz Jr. (Charlie) was born in Shelby, MS a small community just north of Cleveland. He graduated from Bayou Academy and then attended the University of Mississippi, but always had a longing to return to “Blue Cane” the family farm, where he still lives today. Charlie’s father Charles C. Heinsz, Sr. and grandfather C.E. Heinsz relocated from their farm near Crowley, Louisiana in 1950 to what is now his family farm near Shelby, in Bolivar County. They were one of the first five or six families to grow a rice crop in “The Delta”.

For 38 years, Charlie farmed with his family growing rice, soybeans and wheat. In 1980 he married the love of his life, Beth Hackney Heinsz, and together they raised three children Brittany, Brigham and Charles C. Heinsz III (Tres). Charlie and Beth are proud grandparents to a beautiful little girl, Charlie Kerr.

As a life-long native of Bolivar County and a seasoned real estate professional, Charlie recognizes and values the trust his clients place in him and strives daily to exceed their expectations. “I am writing to you to let you know how much I appreciate Bruce West. Bruce sold my mother's home in Hollandale last summer and my property at 401 Bailey Drive in August of this year. “The morning of July 2^nd, 2021, was when I saw a Facebook post by Bruce West, whom I had known for many years and worked with in the Emmaus Walk Ministry, saying that he had changed careers, was now a Realtor, and if anyone needed to buy or sell property, he’d be glad to talk to them about representation. I texted him that I was indeed interested in selling my home at Brownspur. Bruce and Gwendolyn lived about ten miles south of me in Hollandale, just down the street from my brother Beau. He called back that afternoon and made an appointment to come by Monday to look at my homestead, which consisted of a big two-story 1898 Plantation Home, with nearly 6000 sq. ft. under roof and an 1800 sq. ft. guest house connected by a covered walkway, all on six acres, including an old-fashioned sand-bottomed Swimming Hole with a shooting range behind it. Betsy and I had listed Brownspur several times in the past few years after all our kids got out from underfoot, intending to move to smaller quarters in our Golden Years, but had never gotten a serious offer. She had passed away suddenly the week after our 55^th Anniversary, six months before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. I viewed that as an opportunity to catch it and die, to go be with Betsy, so had done absolutely nothing to the house and yard in over two years since her death. Bruce advised me to go with a “Buy-As-Is” approach, and we signed an agreement for representation Tuesday morning. He e-mailed me Thursday morning that he was showing it to a couple at 5:30 that afternoon. Monday morning he called to say that he had an offer, so I met him early Tuesday. The couple had offered less than we had listed it for, but three other people had contacted him over the weekend to say they were interested in looking at Brownspur. What did I want to do? "Let’s make them a counter-offer, halfway the difference,” I suggested. He nodded and dialed where we stood in the parking lot of the Double Quik gas station in Leland. He never got off the phone: “They took it,” he exclaimed! I had no idea how much paperwork was involved by so many parties from North Carolina to Nashville, Tennessee, to Leland, Greenwood, Cleveland, Brownspur, to Sumner where I now live, re-married to Cindy, Betsy’s former Ole Miss roommate. Bruce took care of dotting all the i’s and crossing all the t’s, thank the Lord. We closed on August 24^th. What a fantastic experience it was, selling my home on the plantation I’d grown up on for 77 years, through my Realtor and Friend, Bruce West!” Robert N.

Callie Towles

Originally from Helena, Arkansas, Callie Sellers Towles is a 1997 graduate of Desoto School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from Delta State University in 2001.

Following graduation, Callie began her career with the Mississippi Business Journal in Jackson, MS, serving as Assistant to the Director of Special Events and Publications. After several years, she returned to Cleveland, MS, where she joined Delta State University’s Institutional Research department before later moving to the office of Graduate and Continuing Studies.

In 2008, Callie and her husband, Allen B. Towles, opened Cleveland Ace Hardware, a family-owned business they continue to own and operate today. The couple married in 2003 and have three children: Campbell, a sophomore at Mississippi State University; Caroline, a senior at Bayou Academy who will attend Mississippi State in the fall; and Lawson, a sophomore at Bayou Academy.

In 2014, Callie joined the administration team at Bayou Academy, where she has served in multiple roles and contributed to the growth and success of the school. In 2024, she and Allen expanded their business ventures with the opening of The UPS Store. In addition to their retail operations, the Towles family also manages investment real estate properties.

Doyes was born and raised in Hamilton, Alabama. He obtained a B.S. in Forestry from Mississippi State University in 1975. Ten years later, he completed a Master of Forestry with emphasis in forest taxation also from Mississippi State. Doyes’ forestry career began in 1977 and continued for 40+ years, with much of his career with Weyerhaeuser Company as a Timber Buyer, Road Manager and lastly as Harvest Planner until his retirement in 2018.

Doyes and his wife Kay are long time residents of Starkville and avid MSU Bulldog fans. They have attended New Covenant Church for more than 40 years with their three children. They currently own and operate Bops Frozen Custard in Starkville. For many years, Doyes had a small beef cattle operation in the Bell School House community where his children learned a strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors. Kadero Edley is from the small town of Raymond, MS, but currently resides in Grenada, MS. Dale is a retired Military Officer and Afghanistan War veteran. He is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and served over 20 years as a pilot. Marissa Chrestman

Born and raised in Sneads, Florida, a charming small town nestled in the heart of the Florida Panhandle, Marissa grew up surrounded by farmland, the serene shores of Lake Seminole, and the Apalachicola River. It is there that she developed a love for the outdoors and the lifestyle it supports. Growing up in North Florida, Marissa spent her time playing sports, hunting, fishing, and going to the beach with her family.

Josh Wren

Josh’s love for real estate has always been evident even if it took a few years and a circuitous path to get to Tom Smith Land and Homes. Josh was raised in Raymond, MS where he went to Central Hinds Academy from 5k until his graduation in 1996. Josh then went to Hinds Community College on a baseball scholarship then on to the University of Mississippi where he graduated in 2000 with a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. After graduating from the University of Mississippi, Josh was accepted into dental school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he attended from 2001 until graduation in 2005. He was then accepted into pediatric dental residency at the University of Kentucky where he served as chief resident and received his pediatric dental certificate in 2007. Upon completion of his scholastic endeavors, Josh started Wren Pediatric Dentistry in Brandon, MS in 2007 where he ran his dental clinic until 2021 when orthopedic and neurological conditions prevented him from practicing dentistry any longer.

Josh has been a biology teacher and assistant football coach at Central Hinds Academy since 2022. Josh resides in Madison, MS with his wife Lexie and their children, Emory and Elliot. In their free time, the Wrens enjoy spending as much time as possible outdoors, traveling, or at their second home in Oxford rooting for the Rebels.

Leslie Pinnix

Leslie was born and raised in Benoit, Mississippi. He graduated in 1995 from St. Joseph High School in Greenville, Mississippi. He then furthered his education at Mississippi State University obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy.

Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, raised in Louisiana and Learned, Mississippi, Robert Ritchie has always valued faith, family, and the beauty of God’s creation. After graduating from Raymond High School in Raymond, Mississippi, he continued his education at the University of New Orleans, where he played collegiate golf and developed a lifelong love for the outdoors. He later earned an associate degree in Funeral Service Education from Delgado Community College.
For over 22 years, Robert faithfully served families through his work at his family’s funeral home in Bogalusa, a career that strengthened his compassion, integrity, and commitment to helping others.
