When my wife and I decided that we wanted to put some funds into non-paper assets, we decided on timber land. We contacted Tom Smith and met with him one evening. We knew nothing about this kind of investment and Tom patiently explained the ins and outs and how this sort of thing worked. We discussed our desires and Tom translated those into a specific type of property that we should be looking for, considering our budget. Because of our ages, we needed to find something that would be harvestable in a relatively short time. I searched the state of Mississippi for 10 years trying to find the perfect tract of land that would fit my families needs. Each tract I looked at there was something that didn't fit. I contacted Tom Smith. I explained to him what we were looking for and he smiled and said I'll find it. Ellen, originally from Chicago, IL, graduated with a B.S. in Economics from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois in 1988, then she decided to leave the cold weather and head to the West Coast to California.
In 1991, Ellen obtained her M.B.A from Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA in 2 years and began her career with a Fortune 500 company in Los Angeles.

Bo Burkes is originally from Philadelphia, Mississippi and graduated from Mississippi State University in 2002 with a BBA in Real Estate and Mortgage Finance. When the terrorist attack happened on September 11, 2001, Bo’s senior year in college, Bo felt the call to serve his country. So in 2003, Bo joined the Mississippi Army National Guard as a Warrant Officer. He proudly served 8 years as an Apache helicopter and C-12 King Air pilot in the service. Bo served one tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as an Apache helicopter pilot. He earned many personal awards during his time in the military and was honorably discharged in June 2012.
Bo, with his wife Lindsey and their two boys, Hayes and Jones, are proud to call Starkville home. Bo is an avid outdoorsman and loves to spend as much time as possible out on the lands of Mississippi. He has always had a passion for real estate and the outdoors. After 20+ years of Law Enforcement Preston had attained the Rank of Major over the Internal Investigations Unit for the Louisiana Department of Corrections. Joel was born and raised in Philadelphia, MS. He graduated from Mississippi State University, earning his B.S. in Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business, with a concentration in land surveying in 2014. While there he also became a real estate salesperson. Joel is a full time sales agent working out of the Starkville office and serving East Central MS. Michael was born and raised in Cleveland, MS. He spent two years at Moorehead Community College completing General Education courses. He then transferred to Delta State University where he graduated with a minor in Business Administration and a major in Real Estate and Insurance. He moved to Jackson, MS in February of 2007 to begin his career as a Real Estate Broker and Appraiser. Michael, his wife Elisa, and their sons Fin and Fisher currently reside in Madison, MS and attend Pinelake Church.

Michael graduated from Mississippi State University with a B.S. in Forestry in 1983. Since that time he has enjoyed a career as a Registered Forester, and a Real Estate Broker in Mississippi since 1986. He held a license as a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in Mississippi for a portion of that time. He has assisted private landowners in timber, farm and wildlife land management and sales for over thirty years. He has served as President of Halfacre Consulting Inc. working out of Louisville, Mississippi.

Tom has lived in New Albany all his life. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1985 with a BS in Forestry and is a Registered Forester and Certified General Appraiser. He retired from the Right of Way Division of the Mississippi Department of Transportation in 2014 with 29 years as a staff appraiser, review appraiser and forester.
Tom and his wife, Veronica, and their two children, Daniel and Patricia are all active within The First Baptist Church New Albany. Mr. Smith, In June of 2016, Heath Daniels contacted me through a Craigslist ad I posted regarding 30 acres I was attempting to sell. After a negative experience with a past realtor, I was hesitant, at a minimum, to respond to Mr. Daniels inquiry. After several weeks of no responses I finally called Mr. Daniels back and agreed to meet with him about my property. From the moment Mr. Daniels walked into my office, I knew he could get the job done on a difficult piece of property. I signed his forms, and Mr. Daniels was on his way. Within days, Mr. Daniels had put together a brochure of the property with several pictures and a brief description. After a few short weeks, Mr. Daniels and I were driving to Macon, MS to close on my property _ something I never thought would happen. Another couple of months had passed, and Mr. Daniels and I had become friends. Again, I called on Mr. Daniels to find a home for my wife and I. He listened to our wants and our needs, he gave us solid and realistic advice, and within two days we put in an offer on a home in Madison, MS. Mr. Daniels guided us throughout the entire process, assuring me he had our backs. He did not let us down. We began running into one issue after another with our mortgage broker. So many issues, in fact, I wanted to walk away. However, Mr. Daniels assured me he would get us through to the finish line. Mr. Daniels went above and beyond all of my expectations, and I believe he surpassed the level of customer care any company would demand from their employees. He worked day and night, tirelessly, to ensure we got our first home closed. He put in numerous phone calls to the broker whom I did not care to deal with, he organized everything with the closing attorney, and he kept me calm in a very anxious situation. You do not know me and I only know of you, through your reputation, but believe me when I say Heath Daniels is the best employee you could ever ask for. About 18 months ago I got fed up with my hunting club and decided to see if I could buy a small tract of land for my family to bow hunt on. Heath Daniels
Heath was born in Bossier City, LA and raised in deep East Texas. After graduating from Joaquin High School in 1998, he did EMS work for two years before moving to Jackson, MS in 2001 to attend Seminary. He graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. He worked eight years as the Operations Manager for a prosthetics firm and now lives in Madison, MS with his wife Gretchen of Moss Point, MS and three kids; Julianna, Elizabeth, and Seth.
As early as three years old Heath was spending time in the outdoors hunting, camping and fishing with his dad. The old adage is “You can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy” applies with him. During his early years he developed a love for the land and outdoors; his passion and desire for fresh air, woods and water eventually drove him to investigate and soon pursue a career in real estate. This love for the land and outdoors has fueled his desire to assist buyers in locating the property they desire. He also works hard for sellers in getting the most for their land. Adam was born and raised in Attala County in the small town of Sallis, MS. After high school, he attended Holmes Community College for two years before transferring to Mississippi College where he received his B.S. in Kinesiology. He began working at Mississippi Sports Medicine after he graduated in 2009. He worked under the guidance of orthopedic surgeons for 7 years before deciding to pursue a career that would get him out from behind the walls and into his element…the outdoors.
Not only is he an avid outdoorsman, he has a love and passion for the outdoors. He was brought up hunting, riding horses and just being outdoors in general. He was taught at a young age to respect the dirt under your feet and utilize it however you can. Adam was raised to treat the person next to you the way you want to be treated, work hard for what you have and put God first in your family. He fits the profile of a “good, home-grown country boy”. Steve Martens is a lifelong native of the Jackson, MS area. He graduated from Jackson Prep and went on to graduate from the University of MS with a degree in Finance and Real Estate. I love the land. I always have. As a young boy growing up in Attala County, my days were filled with woods, fields, and exploration. I breathed the life that nature provides. Eventually, my family spent several years in south Louisiana, expanding my love for fishing and the outdoors.
Joining the US Air Force in 1980, I served honorably as an air traffic control supervisor. Those years in Japan highlighted by appointment as the ATC liaison for the U-2 and SR71 reconnaissance operations. Nothing but excitement! I transitioned from military service to a career in air traffic control with the Federal Aviation Administration, working “live traffic” at numerous airports across the US, ultimately positioned at FAA Headquarters in Washington, DC. I’ve maintained a top-secret clearance throughout my career.
Since 1990, Edwards, MS has been home, where I’ve had the honor of serving as Mayor.
Perseverance and follow-through are two traits that have advanced me through life. I love the task and its completion. This is who I am. However, the demands of life require relief and I know the place that settles my soul, it’s the land!
This green state of Mississippi, so blessed with beauty, wildlife and rich soil, is a wonderful place to live. There is a place for you…that place that “settles the soul”, let me help you find it. Corey was born and raised in Walthall County, MS where most of his time was spent hunting and fishing. After graduating from Columbia Academy he attended Southwest Community College and then graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management. For the last 15 years he has been an insurance agent for Farm Bureau Insurance. Corey missed the outdoors and that is what led him to Tom Smith Land and Homes.
He and his wife Pollyanna live in Sumrall, MS with their black lab Kate. They are members of Temple Baptist Church. Corey enjoys all kinds of hunting, especially duck hunting. Vicki and her husband moved to Mississippi 26 years ago to farm in the Delta. They were born and raised in Alabama, but call Panola County, Mississippi home. Eli Ferguson
Eli was born and raised in Brookhaven, MS and is a graduate of Brookhaven High School. He attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College for two years before moving to Oxford where he attended The University of Mississippi. Eli earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in Real-Estate and Finance. He has always had a strong passion for Real-Estate and the Outdoors. He spent his summers in junior college working for a surveyor surveying land all over southwest Mississippi. While in Oxford, he spent his time working in residential construction helping develop subdivisions in a booming college town. Since moving back to Brookhaven, his professional career includes time working with insurance, banking and business management. Eli’s banking experience was spent specifically in mortgage and finance. He knows how to work closely with lending institutions and understands the process and what it takes to help a client get a deal done.
Eli has always taken advantage of his time outdoors, whether hunting, fishing or trail riding.
